the research behind steripod The steripod has been rigorously tested by independent laboratories to confirm it’s efficacy in killing germs for up to 90 days. For your information, below is the summary report of the latest testing. If you would like further information on the lab tests for steripod, please contact us at 800.5266348 Microbiology Efficiency Testing Summary for the steripod® Toothbrush Hygiene System Overview
The Bonfit Steripod® Toothbrush Hygiene System was challenged with three different strains of bacteria that have been associated with tooth decay and oral infections. Toothbrushes were contaminated with an extreme level of these bacteria and exposed in the Steripod device. The amount of viable bacteria remaining on the toothbrushes were subsequently examined and compared with the starting concentration of bacterial cells.
Independent Testing by an Accredited Microbiology Laboratory
The microbiology testing facility, located in the United States, offers state-of-the-art laboratories with more than 170 scientists and more than 50 registered and specialist microbiologists, and provides services to many of the world’s most influential pharmaceutical and medical device companies. The testing facility is registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and is accredited to International testing laboratory standards (ISO 17025) by a third-party.
Challenge Bacteria and Procedure
The testing procedure employed the following bacteria:
• Enterococcus faecalis
• Streptococcus mutans
• Lactobacillus casei
The procedure included replicate test samples and an appropriate set of controls that are routinely performed for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries, including those necessary to demonstrate adequate recovery of the challenge microorganisms during the course of the study.
More than one million bacterial cells (1,000,000) were inoculated onto the bristles of multiple toothbrushes. The inoculated toothbrushes were then placed in the Steripod system and held at room temperature for 12 hours, simulating the time between routine morning and evening brushings. At the end of this incubation period, the percent of bacterial cells killed as compared with the starting number of bacterial cells was determined using an industry-accepted and scientifically validated testing procedure.
This procedure was separately repeated with each challenge bacterium.
Testing Results
At the end of the labeled 90-day in-use period, the Steripod device demonstrated a substantial reduction in viable bacteria. The results of this testing demonstrates the ability of the Steripod system to kill extremely large concentrations of oral bacteria throughout the device’s labeled in-use period. |
